Winter Vehicle Storage Checklist

There are many reasons to tuck one’s vehicle for the cold winter months.  Whether it be the owner living in different areas, or the vehicle being too nice to handle the brutal elements that winter can sometimes throw our way, it is wise to take the time to ensure your prized car or truck is stored correctly.

Covering
If at all possible, store the car inside a garage while it isn’t being used during the winter. The car should be kept away from rain, snow, wind, sun, and other elements.  If there is no garage available, any covering is better than none.  The same goes for a cover, if all else fails use a tarp, or old bed sheet.  MacGyver would be proud!

Tires
If the tires aren’t moving and are left in the same position for months it can cause damage or ruin the tires. Removing the tires and store the vehicle on blocks will help.

Liquids
Add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, fully drain the cooling system, and change the oil before leaving a car for an extended period of time.

Animals
Animals and other small critters seek shelter during the cold winter months and an unused vehicle is a prime place to hide out. To keep animals out of the car put mothballs inside the vehicle and cover the exhaust.
